22 digit ltd is the vinyl only off shot of uk based 22 digit records, and this new release is upfront house music in the style of artists like mr. g. this 22 digit ltd release is a collaboration between uk stalwart moodymanc and label boss william welt with solo remixes from appleblim and alland byallo. moodymanc also known to many as dubble d, is a manchester based artist who boasts seminal releases on labels including tsuba, local talk and 20/20 vision among many others of a similar calibre. william welt is a young artist who now based in manchester, cut his teeth in newcastle upon tyne, and has releases on labels including traum and construct. the first of the remixes comes from appleblim, whose bass heavy sound has been a regular feature of imprints inclouding r&s records, aus music, tempa and skull disco. second of the remixes comes from alland byallo, who has previously released on labels including third ear, get physical, poker flat, moodmusic, dirt crew and rawax.

austrian imprint luv shack records is opening up yet another chapter in 2018 by welcoming irish house and techno aficionado and misfit resident andrew johnston aka moodtrax and his own-brand of super warm and brooding sound to their stable. the perfect illusion ep opens up with never can get away, a steamy & dreamy cut that sucks you right in to its lair of thick pads and trancy sequences, which are contrasted by a carefully programmed synth bassline and a stomping house beat. the title track immediately evokes early chicago warehouse jam feelings, with bass sequence, detuned chords and classic drum patterns all oozing of old analogue roland machines. the meticulously arranged percussions section and a set of eerie strings and pads make this one definitely stand out from the crowd. running number starts as a no-nonsense house track, carried by a beefy unisono bassline and a 16th note heavy drum pattern, yet it transcends into 80s territory with the help of a deeply emotional chord progression that might just make you forget you re in a club. berlin duo longhair give running number the luvremix treatment, really digging deep into that chord progression and building a melody and synth-bell infused italo-house track around it that should make this years festival crowd weep and rejoice alike.

proper mixed bag this one soothing, grinding, banging, and disturbing! new york city by way of miami, alex suarez delivers his debut lp the eight track autogolpe for l.i.e.s. autogolpe, is a term for military coup initiated by a dictator to take control of an existing government and suarez uses this loose idea to create the sonic equivialent of the pain, strife, oppression, isolation, and joyous freedom associated with said act. musically he expands on his prior releases for bank and primitive languages as heavy industrialized sonic beatings sit next to somber passages, oil drum slow beat tribal clangers provide a back drop for screams shooting out of the dark. musically it paints a distorted picture of world in decline, an exile from another land and arrivial to anothers in chaos or the clinging hope of something better on the other side.

berlin-based pascal hetzel returns to caduceus records with a new slice of gritty industrial-tinged techno and finely tuned sound design. “noxious stimulus”, the ep’s title track, is a heavy peak-time filler with a mesmerizing bleepy modular sequence on top of rough monochrome beats. on her remix, rising talent denise rabe cranks up the paranoia and turns “noxious stimulus” into an unrelenting pitch black grinder. “pain tolerance threshold” starts off as hefty with yet another dose of metallic atmospheres and crushing modular sequences, until a bright pad appears out of the dark. proper techno goodness for the wee hours in your favorite warehouse. pressing on smokey green marbled vinyl.

breaching is the debut album from leeds-based, 6-piece, post-metallers hundred year old man. hot on the heels of recent ep rei, breaching emitsthe same heaving intensity and unforgiving, wall of sound approach. dense and billowing riffs are intertwined with field recordings and spoken word passages to form an unyielding, sprawling piece of work that delivers the bands artistic vision perfectly. the more ambient, drone sections of the record compliment and allow the real songs to take flight. debut single black fire is reworked to give the track a new lease of life, whilst the other heavy hitters here, the forest, long wall, disconnect and ascension are a continuation of the excellent work found on the rei ep. breaching contains masses of atmosphere and is a ferocious and immersive listening experience. an epic, monolithic voyage full of texture, depth, aggression and emotion. this is an album that should be approached as a whole, with patience and attention. the rewards will deliver a unique, crushing and quite simply superb record.

kingswood drive and accidental return were an early teaser of this new set. displaying their signature analogue sounds and arpeggios, alongside broken beats and soul, you wouldn t be alone in hearing the influences of dam funk, herbie hancock or bugz in the attic coming through on these two. elsewhere more jittery, playful rhythms underpin croydon rooftop café culture. as well as in the calming and ethereal prints on the heath, a subtle tribute to mutual hero prince, who passed away on the unusually prolific day this and two other, currently unreleased, tracks were written and recorded. throughout the ep the duo nod at their london home from the -heath- to kingswood drive and more obviously croydon itself. the sound of south london is threaded throughout this record with pride. even down to the mechanical sunset sound of ep finale thorns, capturing some of the essence of the studio view over london from their high point on the hill in thornton heath. the first ep from albert s favourites co-founders and synth-production duo modified man focused on throwing out heavy editing, recording music with as few processes as possible and grabbing performances as single takes. blending warped cassette recordings that touched upon early jazz-funk/brit-funk influences with the energy of broken beat and experimental electronica, won them support from patrick forge, osunlade, thris tian, yam who? and titeknots to name a few. since that release they premiered new track thorns live on boiler room, going on to deliver a full, three-hour live performance and dj set for the infamous global community. they also provided remixes for dele sosimi, amp fiddler, makadem & behr and hector plimmer, meanwhile, busily preparing a series of four, six-track vinyl eps which will be released over the next 18 months.
